A year ago today, I received a document in the mail that had been sealed up for nearly 44 years. It was my original birth certificate prior to my adoption. When I opened the envelope, I stared at it for what seemed an eternity yet it was mere moments. I was almost thinking they had sent the wrong birth certificate as my current name was on this piece of paper that I held before me. A few seconds of processing made me realize that I had been born with the same name that was also given to me when I was adopted. I was born Michael and later named Michael again. There were even the same number of letters in both middle names. The first time I was given the name Michael David Piper, David after King David. Then, I was renamed Michael Aaron Jackson, Aaron after Elvis the king. And of course I am Michael Jackson, the king of pop. And my birth father was Leroy Brown like the song “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown.” My adopted dads middle name is Leroy as well. Leroy is French for the king. Someone joked that if I ever decide to get a tattoo it should be a crown. There were many more coincidences I discovered however in all honesty there are is no such thing. “Coincidence is Gods way of remaining anonymous” --Einstein.
