A year ago tonight, I took the biggest step I have ever taken in my life: I “retired”/resigned from my English Headship – my teaching career as I then knew it. I remember sending the email and as excited as I was, there were many, many tears. A part of me even thought for a moment what have I done? Never could I imagine all that has unfolded in just 1 year. It’s been beyond my wildest dreams: mind detox training in California with Sandy Newbigging, mindfulness training under Shamash Alidina, creating online courses, doing group mind detox online sessions for businesses, running a retreat in Bayfield, being published, giving live workshops in 4 cities, but most importantly, feeling an expansion and freedom to fully BE me, to BE with our son, to BE with my family, to follow my dreams and create a life that speaks to me at every level. I always taught my students that we can never discover new oceans until we are willing to lose sight of the shore. (Gide) And truly, I’ve lived that philosophy all along the journey. And here’s what I’ve learned this year ~ when we fully make space for the new, AMAZING things come forward. AMAZING things. Dream, believe, make space and know that if there are tugs at your heart, they are there for a reason. They are there because the Universe is saying “listen and take heed”. A part of me was sad last year because I felt I was resigning as a teacher. But I know now beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I am a teacher for life ~ a student for life too. Room 217 and all who came my way while there, I will forever smile when I think of you because you were where I learned how much I love to teach. So tonight I stand in gratitude -- reflecting on where I’ve come from, grateful for it all, and with that gratitude deep in my heart, I stand with arms open wide on the edge of the beautiful unknown fully surrendering to the amazing, infinite possibilities that lie before me.
