A year ago yesterday, while sitting in our annual Back to School meeting, I received a call that would forever change my life. My doctor was on the line and she needed me to be in her office in 30 minutes. Scared to death and what seemed like a year later, my hubby and I walked in her office and had a seat. Then came those words that no one on earth ever wants to hear You have cancer. What? Did I hear her right? She couldnt be talking to me. I was only 36. Things like this happen to other people, not me. Seems that spot that many people had told me to have checked for over a year before and I had chosen to ignore them, really was something. It was not only skin cancer, it was the deadliest form of skin cancer -- malignant melanoma!! I was numb to say the least!! After having surgery on the very first day of school and then again a few weeks later and missing more school than I ever have before for doctors appointments for myself, I am extremely blessed to say that I am cancer free!! I didnt tell many people while it was going on and I do not post this now wanting pity because anyone who knows me knows the last thing in this world that I want is for someone to feel sorry for me!! I am a firm believer that if God brings you to it, if you trust and believe in HIM, HE will bring you through it!! My hope in posting it is that if you or anyone else sees something that looks odd, please have it checked by a doctor. Some people will also tell you that its only skin cancer but skin cancer kills more than 10,000 people in the US every year!! My own stubborness could have cost me my life but thank God it only left me with scars!! I am so extremely thankful to my luv, Jamie Rasnake, for letting me cry on his shoulders and assuring me that everything would always be alright. Many, many nights we laid in bed and he let me talk and rant and I am forever grateful to him for that!!! Sorry for my long post but if one person reads it and gets checked it was well worth it!!!
