A zoo in Copenhagen shot a 15-month old giraffe yesterday because - TopicsExpress

A zoo in Copenhagen shot a 15-month old giraffe yesterday because it did not have the appropriate genes. They refused to sell it though they were offered more than €500,000, and they said they could not transfer it to another zoo. So they decided to shoot and not give a poison injection. Because the meat would be useless otherwise - yup, they fed it to the big cats after killing it. And oh, this killing and cutting up was done in front of young children, who captured it on their cameras and phones, just as some zoo employees also did. Now the zoo director expresses shock and dismay at receiving death threats (what constitutes a death threat? Saying Ill kill you, you animal hater! on Twitter -_- ), and justifies it by saying they regularly do it with other species as well. I accept there might be some scientific reason that I do not know and do not care to find out. However, I am outraged at the blatant disregard with which the zoo authorities treat animal life (and for the record, I am a vegetarian and against animal testing as well). Would they be willing to apply the same logic to humans and kill some off because they are genetically unsuitable? Oh wait - the Nazis already did that...
