AAP Maharashtra team protests Mafia-Police Nexus in burning the homes in slums of Mankhurd, Mumbai. AAP takes on Mafia-Police Nexus for burning slums in Mankhurd. Over six months ago resident of the huts in Mankhurd, Mandala came to Aam Aadmi Party for help against the terror of Godown Owners. These Godowns were earlier part of Kurla Scrap Yard, moved to Mankhurd years back and have been now allotted land in Taloja. But they refuse to go, because in the past few years they have become the ring leaders of the petroleum-chemical mafia that deals in stolen hazardous products. Their Godowns precarious lean on the slum dwellers chawls. The one open space in between which is supposed to be government land has been usurped by them. They point security cameras in to the poor’s houses, their bouncer watchmen threaten kids if they play there, in fact the have kept women guards who routinely file false molestation charges against the slum youth to ensure nobody disturbs their blatant robberies. When AAP intervened the Senior Police Inpsector (SPI) Rajput and Deputy Collector Jadhav began a merry dance of jurisdiction and refused to take action against the multiple atrocities or to demolish the illegal structures. The Godwon Mafia gang lord openly state he has paid 1 crore to the police and will easily spend another crore to ensure that his business of smuggled hazardous goods continues unabated. Last evening a fire was started in a godown adjoining the huts of few locals who have been protesting vigorously against this black marketing. 5 huts were completely turned to ashes. One belonged to woman whose daughter is to get married, all the clothes, jewelry, utensils she had collected for her daughter are now a heap of ashes. SPI Rajput was trying to pin the fire on some “Chula” while throughout that slum all use LPG burners. AAP activists led by State Secretary Preeti Sharma Menon reached there and demanded an FIR against the godown owners under section 438 and other applicable sections. The police refused and the locals and AAP activists marched to Mankhurd Police Station at Lalubhai Compound and gheraoed the station at around 7pm. The FIR was finally filed at 11pm after staunch protests. However the police refused to make any arrests or take action against the Godown Owner. State Convenor Anjali Damania came to police station and demanded the police raid the godowns on our complaint that there are stolen hazardous goods. After long altercation and every attempt to avoid the raid, Anjali finally forced the police to come with her and raid the godowns. We founds hundreds of drums of stolen hazardous chemicals, pools of acid, many other stolen goods - even a truck full of onions. The raid went on till the wee hours of the morning and it now remains to be seen what action the police will take on the findings. Deputy Commissioner of Police Lakhmi Gautam was conscious by his absence and Additional Commissioner of Police Quaiser Khalid is always blissfully oblivious to the activities of his area. AAP has complained to the Joint Commissioner Law and Order Sadanand Date and the Home Minsiter’s office of the police-mafia nexus which is thriving in this area and we demand the suspension of SPI Rajput. AAP will now take up the connivance of the Deputy Collector Jadhav on whose land this whole mafia thrives. Despite repeated complaints and follow-ups he has turned a blind eye fully knowing that every six months, houses are burnt here to make more and more space for this open trafficking of stolen goods.
