AAP’s fund raising dinner concept is new to India but could manage to collect about Rs 50 lakhs in Bangalore as claimed by AAP. Success could be due to clout of local organizer. But one held at Nagpur was no so encouraging but biggest failure was at Delhi. Only about hundred people attended. AAP should have made Delhi dinner a flagship event, by active participation of Kejriwal. But he was absent, it was a blunder as a mega well organized event would have helped AAP to replicate the same in other cities and better crowd attraction would have been easier. Attendance of Kejriwal in other cities may not be essential but in Delhi it would have made huge difference. One more concern for AAP cropping up is, Delhi being its base city, it could not organize the event successfully, even compared to Bangalore event, shows its fragile support base in Delhi itself. Potential of Delhi is at least 5 times than Bangalore, considering the profile of people residing in Delhi. Coming to Dinner as a fund raising option, this is a new concept for India and some more time may be required to be accepted by the public. People comparing the price with menu, quality of feed, ambiance can be an issue, one can think of having better dinner at a five star hotel for Rs 5,000 and pay donation online. Hence fund raising dinner events should be made more attractive by aiming at active participation from the guests by way of discussion on policy measures or interaction with senior leaders of the party or a popular celebrity or some other way.
