AARON Wilson of Carenage Blasters and PowerGen’s Catherine Spicer booked their spots on the men and women’s national table tennis teams respectively with victories in the Singles on Sunday as the curtains came down on this year’s Caribbean Championship trials at the Central Regional Indoor Sporting Arena, Chaguanas. Wilson now joins David Mahabir (unattached) and automatic qualifiers Dexter St Louis and Curtis Humphreys (UTT) on the TT squad while Spicer completes the women’s team, combining with France-based Rheann Chung, Aleena Edwards (UTT) and Saturday’s qualifier, Ashley Quashie. On Sunday, Wilson got the better of GDT’s Yuvraaj Dookram13-11, 11-8, 11-8 in his opening match and then took care of Everton Sorzano (D’Abadie Youths) 11-4, 11-6, 9-11, 2-11, 11-5. The young Wilson followed up with a flawless 11-0, 11-0, 11-0 showing against Anson Wellington (Arima Hawks) and completed a perfect run with a 12-10, 11-5, 11-4 win over Alaric Humphreys (UTT). The Carenage Blasters player was the final male to secure a national team place for the June 30 – July 6 Championships in Havana, Cuba. In the women’s category, Spicer also showed good form by holding a determined Linda Partap-Boodhan (Arima Hawks) 4-11, 11-3, 7-11, 11-4, 11-4; Bishops High School’s Jasher De Gannes 11-7, 11-4, 11-5 and another Arima Hawks player, Brittany Joseph 11-8, 4-11, 11-3, 11-6. spacer
