AASE Trip to Denmark Basketball England AASE students opened their Danish tour against top Dane youth team EVN yesterday with two exciting games. Both teams were led in scoring by Moulton College pair Ogden and Calvey. The games were considered a warm up prior to the international tournament this weekend in Holbaek which sees teams for Sweden, Denmark and China competing from Friday-Sunday. England AASE Ladies 71 - EVN 52 The ladies started well with Ogden netting the teams first 9 points and when she connected with two 3 pointers at the end of the quarter England AASE led 22-12 behind her incredible 15 point blast. England AASE never looked back and maintained a double digit lead for most of the game. After the first quarter Welham picked up the scoring finding a variety of ways to put the ball in the hole while her Copplestone team mate Tom filled up the stats column with an outstanding display at both ends of the floor. All in all it was a great start to the tour for the Ladies. Coach Bowen was delighted everyone played hard and we played as a team. Its a great starting point moving into what will be a very tough tournament this weekend Stephanie Ogden 22 points Harriott Welham 21 points Charlene Tom 6 points, 9 rebounds, 6 steals England AASE Men 57 - EVN 71 The men found the going a little tougher with as they fought hard against a strong EVN squad which included the leading rebounder at this summers Euros. Bwana netted 9 first half points with some explosive play but England AASE struggled to find their offensive rhythm and trailed 37-29 at the interval. In the second half England AASE worked valiantly to close the gap and reduced it to a five point deficit with five minutes to play. However, back to back Danish three balls saw the gap extended again as the Scandinavians closed out a 14 point triumph. Centre Calvey impressed with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Coach Barnes It was a good introduction to European basketball for our guys. The physicality of the game was a shock for most of the players.
