ABA RECRUITING FOR A SECOND EGYPTIAN STAFF ATTORNEY Job title Legal Consultant/Staff Attorney Accountability Reports to the Legal Advisor and the Country Director Working station ABA Office- Zamalek, Egypt Working Hours 40 Hours per week NOTE: This is not a legal practice position. It is a coordinating and administrative management support position. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY: As instructed by the Legal Advisor or Country Director: • Assist with developing, implementing and reporting on ABA’s legal education programs in Egypt including working with Universities to: o Organize training events to enhance law faculty teaching skills and curriculum; o Establish legal clinics; and o Organize student activities such as moot court and writing competitions; • Assist with developing, implementing and reporting on ABA’s continuing legal education program in Egypt including working with partner entities to: o Organize curricula and training events for young lawyers o Expand CLE and develop new models of CLE; and o Assist with institutionalization of CLE in Egypt • Assist with d designing, developing and delivering, programs including: o Planning, organizing and conducting seminars, workshops and other training events (to include some logistical arrangements, preparation of substantive materials, and oversight of other local services providers) and, o Preparation of legal reports and assessments on substantive programmatic issues and activities • Monitor legal and other relevant Egyptian political and policy developments and reports on them to ABA leadership and staff as necessary; • Prepare legal analysis and background materials; • Assist with Visiting Legal Specialists’ orientations and activities; • Communicate with local and regional partners on behalf of the ABA as directed by the Legal Advisor or the Country Director; • Represent ABA at meetings with local partners and/or members of the international community as directed by the Legal Advisor or Country Director: • Any other relevant duties as determined by the Legal Advisor or Country Director to be necessary to the position. • Translate various documents from English to Arabic and vice versa SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: • Law degree; • Fluency in Arabic and excellent written and verbal English language skills • Minimum of 2 years out of law school NECESSARY ATTRIBUTES: • Commitment to, and positive attitude about, ABA programmatic objectives • Strong work ethic and analytical and problem solving skills • Integrity and adherence to the highest standards of ethics, confidentiality and performance • Flexibility in approach to changes in programmatic needs • Ability to take initiative, work independently and cope effectively under pressure • Strong verbal and written communication skills in Arabic and English • Team player, able to mentor other staff in developing skills and to assist other staff when needed • Professional demeanor, including tact and diplomacy in dealing with people • Reliable and dependable, including office attendance and work deadlines • Strong Arabic/English translation capabilities • Willingness to learn and grow professionally, including possibly teaching CLE courses WORKING CONDITIONS: Extended and irregular hours and field travel to cities outside of Cairo may at times be required, including during evening and weekends Rev 8.7.14
