ABELS’ MESSAGE TO TODAYS CHURCH by John Hibbert Posted on September 12, 2013 (HEBREWS 11:4) “He being dead yet speaks.” The first man who was made righteous by faith was Abel, son of Adam. Abel stills speaks! He has left a message for the present day church! The message is as follows: ‘We must all understand that the only things in our lives that have any worth before God, and will have worth when we stand before Him, are those things that are done by faith.’ “Without faith it is impossible to please Him” (v6) So all our efforts, work, religious deeds, activities and goals that are not based in faith are pointless and will be burned up in the fire like wood, hay and stubble. The only substance of true value is that which has its origins in God. The power of faith is based in us receiving an understanding of His wishes and direction from the mind of God! Faith is to possess in spirit, and then to transmit into action, a fragment of the mind of God. In Hebrews 11 we discover that the faith of those listed was based in them receiving individual words from God. Noah was warned; Abraham was called; Sarah was promised etc. Each one was guided by the voice of God. Without communication there is no voice. Without a voice there is no basis for faith. Why did God accept Abel’s sacrifice and not Cain’s? The answer is clearly given in the letter to the Hebrews. Abel offered by faith and Cain offered from his own initiative. One was natural and the other was supernatural. One was by faith and the other was of the natural mind. Thousands of Christians and churches operate entirely from the business reasoning of the natural mind. They build huge organisations, have attractive programmes and large congregations, but there is no fire of the Holy Ghost, no holiness of living and no faith is required. The true church is built when we listen to His direction and do as we are told. He does the rest. That is what faith is! This is the word that Abel speaks to the church today!
