....................ABOUT / RULES / SCORING: READ NOW.................... Members of this group are expected to read and comprehend all of this! What is Dogspotting? The Dogspotting Group is not a group for “cute doggie pics” or basic “cool dogs.” This group is dedicated to the Game of Dogspotting. If you want to join to see these dogs in your feed or lurk the group then you are more than welcome! However, if you want to participate, you must abide by the rules listed below. Dogspotting is the art of seeing a dog, classifying it and its actions, and assigning a score to it. The goal of Dogspotting is to spot the dog in as natural a state as possible–ideally doing something wondrous, unique, or exciting. Once the dog is spotted, modifying points are given for different qualities the dog may possess. There are set modifiers such as Distance Bonuses, Missing Component bonuses if the dog is missing a limb, Curious Eater if the dog is eating something strange like a pumpkin, Destroying Human Property as mentioned above, and many others. There is even a 1-pt Creative Bonus that members can assign at will. You have to watch out because there are also negative modifiers out there that can cost you points. In non-Halloween or costume-contest situations, dogs that are wearing human-style fashion clothing or have been dyed colors will net you Shameful Dog penalties. Spotting at the vet, in a pet store, in a dog park, in a kennel, or anywhere else you would expect there to be dogs are not legitimate. It is considered lazy and unsportsmanlike, like hunting on a wildlife preserve. Spots should be spontaneous, not planned-out. If you join Dogspotting you will be expected to read and follow the rules. ........................................GROUP RULES........................................ 1. Respect Admins – Respect the Dogspotting admins and their decisions. Do not sass the Dogspotting staff. If you have a serious problem contact the staff through private message rather than throwing a fit in the comments, as this only disrupts Dogspotting and causes disorder. If you cause disorder you will be Sent to the Farm to Run and Play (banned). The admins have over 76 years of combined Dogspotting experience. It will do you good to listen to and heed any advice they offer. 2. Respect the Rules - Members are expected to read and follow the rules. Ignorance is not an excuse. Not agreeing with a rule does not give you ground to break the rule. Admins reserve the right to send members to the Farm to Run and Play upon breach of the rules. Once a member has been sent to the Farm to Run and Play they can never come back to Dogspotting because they are just having too much fun on the Farm. 3. Social Slights and Civil Rights - No racism, homophobia or other malicious social slights - This is a zero tolerance policy. If you are making a post and are even on the borderline of doing this, please go back and re-write your post or comment. It doesn’t matter if you are serious, or joking. The Dogspotting Staff does not joke when it comes to this rule. Offenders will be Sent to the Farm to Run and Play.THIS INCLUDES jokes about eating dogs. Get a new routine. 4. No Service Dogs – Service dogs have a job of assisting people in a chaotic world. When you perturb a service dog you are inhibiting its ability to fulfill its duties. Disturbing a service dog could very well endanger a person’s life. Therefore, out of respect to the duty of service dogs and their handlers, service dog spots are not allowed. Offenders will be Sent to the Farm to Run and Play. 5. Be Respectful of Privacy – No creeping while peeping! If possible get your spot without disturbing or capturing any humans in the spot. If you do have to capture a human in your spot, it is best to explain yourself and ask permission. New tech is exciting, but please do not use drones to get spots. Keep it personal, on the ground. 6. No Known Dogs / Own Dogs – The whole point of Dogspotting is to spontaneously observe an exciting new dog. Taking a picture of a dog you know, including your own dog, does not fit those criteria. Get out there in the world and make some spots that have a little challenge! Even if the picture makes a cool dog pic, if it is your dog or a dog you know then it’s still not a spot! An example of a known dog might be your neighbor’s dog, a family member’s dog, or a dog you see every day on the way to a bus stop. Example: https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=10152370867637337&set=gm.10152779092474467&type=1&permPage=1 7. No Stealing - No images found on the internet. If you are caught you will be Sent to the Farm to Run and Play. 8. No Memes or Edited Photos – Do not post image macros or memes. Please refrain from calling a dog “doge.” We would rather have a raw photo upload than a screenshot from your camera roll or gallery from your phone. Instagram and snapchat pics are allowed. Text on a snapchat is fine, but no text plastered across a standard photo. Editing software such as photoshop, MSpaint, Gimp, et. al. is frowned upon. You do not need to draw on your photos. You do not need to circle the dog. You do not need to add an arrow. However, using zoom to enhance an extreme long-distance spot is encouraged. If you do this include the original spot and the enhanced spot. Example: https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=10153265816998242&set=oa.10152635093204467&type=1&permPage=1 9. Do Not Use This Group to Press Issues – We all have gripes with injustices in the world. This group is not for organizing against injustice. It is for Dogspotting. Please refrain from pressing your political or socio-economic issues in this group or on this group. This includes both dog related and non-dog related issues, as well as pleas for charity. This is not a group for debating the ethics of dog ownership, breeding, adoption or any other topic not directly related to the act of looking at a dog and assigning it an accurate score. We can’t let this group fill up with people trying to achieve an agenda. If you have issues with something contact the staff via private message. 10. No Pics of Non-Dogs – YOUR DOG IS SICK - Don’t post a pic of an owl and say WHAT TYPE OF DOG IS THIS LOL. Don’t post a pic of a cat, don’t post a pic of a lizard, don’t post a pic of a professional rapper, don’t post a pic of anything except a dog. It has been done umpteen million times. It wasn’t funny any of those times; it won’t be funny when you do it. You will be Sent to the Farm to Run and Play. Example: https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=642342825864658&set=gm.10152770047649467&type=1&permPage=1 11. Selfies and Other Human Appearances - No selfies or posing humans. If youre going to post pictures of your spots, make sure you or your friends are not in them. All photos should focus on dogs, free of you and any other human preferably. We realize that you can’t always get a spot without a human in them but it is best to try. Humans are terrible and no one wants to look at them. Selfies will be instantly deleted. Repeat offenders will be Sent to the Farm to Run and Play. 12. Low-Hanging Fruit/Fish In A Barrel – Do not post spots of dogs in pet stores, kennels, dog parks, a veterinarian, dog shows, or any other place that it is obvious that There Will Be Dogs. It is considered lazy and is bad Dogspotting etiquette. Spots should to be spontaneous. A low-hanging fruit spot is the equivalent of going hunting and finding a baby deer tied to a tree and shooting it in the face. There is just no sport in it! ........................................POSTING / SCORING........................................ When you post a spot, be sure to give good context of your spot, especially if it is in a home or dwelling. If you post a picture without context, zealous Spotters may assume you are posting your own dog or a dog you know. Telling a great story with your spot can even net you extra points! Be fair in your scoring. Every dog is ONE base point. Each attribute is usually one point unless special attributes are captured in the spot (listed below). You may use a creative bonus once per spot (see below). Do not ignore negative point penalties when giving points. A. Creative Bonus Points – Have fun with these. A creative bonus point can be awarded for any wondrous or unique quality of the spot subject possesses that isn’t on the list of normal scores. Be conservative in creative scoring. Any creative bonus you give should be limited to ONE POINT only. No “+5 for being in my hometown” or “+10 for owner having cool dragon leggings” or “+1000 points for cute” or any nonsense like that. Some examples might be: Acrobat bonus +1, for this: https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=10152559865915155&set=oa.10152635093204467&type=1&permPage=1 King of the Hill bonus +1, for this: https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=10152559865810155&set=oa.10152635093204467&type=1&permPage=1 Creative bonuses will always be ONE POINT ONLY. Please only use ONE CREATIVE POINT PER SPOT! B. Text Spots/Great Story! – A text spot is totally viable. If you make a great spot and don’t have a camera handy, feel free to post a story about your spot here in this group. A good story can net you a +1 Great Story point! C. No Human Points - Don’t give points for qualities or actions of humans, ever. We are scoring the dogs only. Humans have absolutely NOTHING to do with Dogspotting points. Please do not remark on human bodies that may be in the shot. D. No Breed Points - Don’t award points for breed. This is paramount to racism. A dog is a dog is a dog. E. No Reverse Spots - There is no “dog spots you” rule. There Is No “Dog Spots You” Rule! THERE IS NO “DOG SPOTS YOU” RULE!!! A dog spotting you back won’t steal your points! However it is an indication that you are probably too close and have perturbed the dog’s natural state, or that you need to work on your stealth skills. F. Multispot! - When two or more dogs are linked in certain ways, it is considered a multispot. When scoring a multispot, first add up the totals for all eligible dogs, including bonuses or penalties, then multiply by the number of participants. A multispot bonus is not necessarily awarded whenever multiple dogs are spotted at once! To qualify as a multispot, the dogs must be linked in one of the following manners: • Connected via leashes to a single entity or object • Trotting together in a manner that suggests shared purpose • An object being held by two or more dogs at the same time • Occupying the same vehicle or container • The physical act of love • Feeding off a shared carcass or piece of food • Violence or full-contact horseplay Example: This is a 17 point spot. 4 dogs worth 1 point each tethered to the same human. That is 4 x 4 points = 16 points. Then a single dog to the side worth 1 additional point gives you a total of 17 points. - https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=10203635958834169&set=o.10487409466&type=3 G. Skill Shot – Getting a spot from a disadvantaged point of view, such as a rear-view mirror, getting a spot of a stationary object from a moving vehicle, or any other spot where the difficulty makes it extremely unlikely you would be able to succeed, but somehow do! Example: https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=10152410869218017&set=o.10487409466&type=3 E. Stealth – Stealth is a good ability for a spotter to possess. It’s the only way you are going to get a close shot of a dog without disturbing its natural state! Stealth is something learned through experience. Don’t get down if you fail at stealth spots at first, learn from your mistakes and successes. This is a skill that can be mastered by anyone! For those spotters who display an amazing amount of stealth in a posted spot, you may be entitled to a +1 stealth bonus! F. Dog Size - There is no dog size rule. There Is No Dog Size Rule! THERE IS NO DOG SIZE RULE!!! All dogs give you a +1 base point. G. Shameful Appearance – Any dog dressed in awkward, nonfunctional attire or groomed in an embarrassing manner will net you with a -2 point penalty! This includes dyed dogs! Especially beware the infamous “Caligula Spot” – a dog in unnecessary footwear. It will garner you a penalty of -3 points!!! Yikes! Example: https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=10203220588651003&set=gm.10152777579674467&type=1&permPage=1 H. Criminal Behavior – A dog spotted committing a crime will net you a +1 bonus. This includes jaywalking, theft (such as stealing human pizza), and any other minor crimes. A dog spotted destroying human property will net you a +2 Crime bonus! Wow! I. Hegemonic Oppression - Any dog being used as a direct agent of police or military intimidation of the public, or breaking up peaceful protests and union actions. -25 points. J. Extreme Lounging - A dog contorting its body into an unnatural position in order to break the traditional boundaries of laziness will net you a +1 bonus!!! Example (Note on example – dog is asleep therefore spotter is not perturbing its natural state): https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=10152646565095155&set=oa.10152635093204467&type=1&permPage=1 K. Distance – A good distance spot will get you a +1 distance bonus! An extreme distance spot will get you a whopping +2 bonus!!! Beware of getting too close. Distance rewards are here to encourage you to not disturb a dog’s natural state. Getting too close disrupts the natural state of a dog and lessens the value of a spot. Getting right up in their face will net you a -1 distance penalty! If the dog is asleep you can get as close as you want without perturbing its natural state, just don’t wake it up! Example – Good Distance +1: https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=1515295992047822&set=gm.10152778566744467&type=1&permPage=1 Example – Extreme Distance +2: https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=10153265816998242&set=oa.10152635093204467&type=1&permPage=1 Example – TOO CLOSE!!! -1: https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=864807410198092&set=gm.10152780739929467&type=1&permPage=1 L. Action Dog - Any dog performing athletic feats or demonstrating great skill. +1 bonus! Example: https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=10152646564335155&set=oa.10152635093204467&type=1&permPage=1 M. Curious Eater - Any dog pushing the limits of the canine palate by eating something unusual, from disgusting to perplexing. This is an astounding +2 point bonus! Example: https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=10152651843160155&set=oa.10152635093204467&type=1&permPage=1 N. Missing Component - A dog with missing limbs, eyes or other parts that is still making an honest effort to live. +1 Bonus! *Does not apply to missing testicles O. Dog Carrying Its Own Leash - Also known as a ronin (浪人), or dog without a master. +1 bonus! Example: https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=10152592357125155&set=oa.10152635093204467&type=1&permPage=1 P. Hero Dog - A dog performing a heroic deed, such as rescuing a family from a burning building or aiding a senior citizen stuck in a well. This rare spot will net you a mind-boggling +25 bonus!!! Amazing! Q. Honored Dogs - Amongst dogkind, there are some unique specimens that go above and beyond, achieve the impossible and demonstrate extraordinary integrity. These are called Honored Dogs, and they are treasured by all serious dogspotters. Sadly, many Honored Dogs, such as Laika, The Auditor, and Hachiko, live on only as statues. If you happen to see the statue of an Honored Dog, you can spot it just the same as any true living dog, but with an appropriate and respectful bonus. Each Honored Dog, in living or statue form, shall only be counted ONCE within the lifetime of the dogspotter. This is worth +25, the same bonus as a Hero Dog. Honored Dogs are Hero Dogs who are remembered forever. This type of spot is not eligible for multisport bonusing. R. Inception Spot – Someone who gets spotted by another spotter while spotting has to cede all of their points for the year to the spotter who spotted them spotting! Beware of other spotters! If you have read all of the rules and think this group is not for you, check out the relatively rules-free Cool Dog Group - https://facebook/groups/365451653528719/
