ABYSS-5 This is just a loose assembly to see that everything is in proper alignment, the strings are actually black yarn. I like to get a good look at it together for any last minute considerations. The body - Birdseye Maple top, Sepele back head inlay pickup cover and bridge cover. This was just a test bridge cover from a scrap piece of wood, color doesnt match but I wanted to see the design before I used the right piece. It has a Rosewood fret board with white/gold MOP inlays. This neck is very thin in both width and girth for a 5 string, but it has two 1/4 corbon fiber tubes under the fret board so it is very stiff. I am using a two way truss, that can easily be removed if it ever fails. The pick ups were custom made with closer string spacing. When you consider the thinner girt of the neck with closer strings you can see this bass is built for speed. The neck is also pitched back 2 degrees for a little more tension and comfort when reaching for the 24th fret. The strings will come through the body adding a little more length and you can see I put a little more distance between the nut and the B tuner, this is in addition to the standard 34 scale. I am pretty happy, its time to start the final sanding and prepping for its finish. The bass will be wired active/passive with a passive tone control. Norstrand pickups and electronics with Hipshot bridge , tuners and ferrules, the hardware is gold plated not polished brass. Considering how good the ghs strings sounded on the prototype ABYSS, I probably will put those on this bass. I just dont know if I want the Black Tape wounds or the Clean steel flats.
