ACCEPTING CHANGE Change can be a challenge at times, especially when traditional ways of thinking become the norm. However, change brings growth and development. When you refuse to change, you remain stuck in the same place and hinder what God is trying to accomplish in your life. Whether it means letting go of an old idea or belief about how something should be done, or simply making an attitude adjustment, change is necessary to achieve your goals and dreams. The Word of God talks about there being a time and season for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Even in the natural, change takes place as nature transitions from one season to the next. In the springtime, what was dead begins to sprout and grow again. In the fall, the leaves turn colours and drop off the trees. Change is inevitable. And it is necessary to usher in the next season. So likewise, change is necessary to help bring you into the next phase of your life. If you resist it, you will stagnate and miss out on what God has for you. One way to change is to renew your mind with the Word of God. Romans 12:2 (The Amplified Bible) says: “Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude]…” You see, change involves taking on a new attitude about things, and embracing something different even if it is foreign to you. I remember when I started preaching on tithing. The truth about tithing was foreign to some people when I first began to teach about it. They didn’t want to accept what the Bible said about this vital key to prosperity and as a result some got offended. They weren’t willing to change their thinking in order to line up with the Word of God. The same is true with any area in which God may be dealing with you. You may have traditional religious beliefs that aren’t benefiting you where your walk with God is concerned. Or God may be speaking to your heart to let go of strife, unforgiveness or bitterness toward someone who has hurt you. Whatever the area is, making a quality decision to change and accept the correction of the Lord and move of His spirit in your life is essential to your success. I know that change can be a challenge at times, even painful. But ask God to give you the ability to change. The Holy Spirit is your helper, and He will reveal to you not only where you need to change, but He will let you know when God is changing your course or direction in life. Remaining committed to change means being in a continual state of obedience. The Holy Spirit is a gentleman and He won’t make you do anything. When you deliberately submit your will to God’s will, you demonstrate your willingness to embrace change. Having a pliable spirit that wants to please Him is an important key to experiencing the blessings that come with His next move in your life or in the lives or your loved ones. I encourage you to make a quality decision to live a lifestyle of change and be open to whatever God speaks to your heart, no matter how you feel about it. When you sense God doing something new in your life, don’t fight against it, but instead flow with Him. Though it may seem a little scary at first, your Heavenly Father knows best. You can’t go wrong when you accept the changes that come from God.
