ACE NO LONGER MY PLACE In a world where the major box stores - TopicsExpress

ACE NO LONGER MY PLACE In a world where the major box stores dominate hardware youd think a company like ACE wouldnt be putting out fake promotions. I live in West Kissimmee, Florida and they opened a new ACE store about a year to 18 months ago in the Formosa Gardens shopping mall. We were thrilled and it is equal distance to a Lowes and Home Depot .Both located about 5 miles further away. Ace is about a mile from our home. We went the first day and signed up for the Ace Rewards card. I kind of suspected something was wrong with the Rewards Card when we kept getting emails but no point rewards. About 6 months passes and we get a letter in the mail claiming they messed up. The store wasnt providing any card holders their points. Some sort of technical goof up and they gave me $5 gift card even though by then I had spent many hundreds of dollars over a dozen or more visits. Last Friday I get a mailing that claims if I went to the store on Saturday, November 1st,2014 I and any friends or family would get 20% off any full priced items. Included in the mailing was two cards. Both had fine print on the back but I expected that. Took a new neighbor with me as he needed some garden tools. I expected wed spend around $200 between us. For some reason ,before we went through the cash I wanted to make sure all that fine print didnt exclude anything we were about to purchase. A lady manager came by and I listed the items we wanted. Included were swimming pool chemicals at which point she says they are exempted. I wasnt happy with that reply as I argued where is it advertised they are not included in the promotion and they are not on sale? She fetches a magnifying glass and says it says service items are not included. I asked what does that mean? She argued if the full priced items included things you service at home they are not included. I said to her she sells lawn seed and fertilizer and those are items that service my lawn. Whats the difference if I want to service my swimming pool? I asked for the owner of the store and she replied NIGEL does not work till Monday. She is the manager assigned on duty. She says she decides what is a service item..... I said then based on her arbitrary inability to show me anything in writing what service item translates in to I have the final say and can shop elsewhere. She then adds insult to injury by saying I am within my rights to shop elsewhere. By then several employees came toward the cashier area and other shoppers were staring at me. Embarrassed we walked out but not before a total stranger abandoned his cart and exited the store with me. He said he too was shocked by the way she treated me and will head over to Lowes. Heres where it gets ridiculous. I purchased my items at that other store and mentioned this situation to a clerk. He called his store manager that asked if I still had the promotion cards? I did and he gave me a 20 % discount on the spot for over $200 in items. Bad enough? That other store manager mentioned I should read the fine print when I got home. I too got out my magnifier and it says on there the excluded items did not say service items excluded. It actually says in store service items excluded. My pool is located at my home and not at the ACE store Sorry ACE. You no longer are my place. Ill be telling all my neighbors to stick with the big box stores. Not worth the hassle to have a store manager argue over 4 items that would have saved me a total of $ 3.20 out of a $200 order. Certainly not worth being embarrassed by a manager who hides behind her inability to explain a store policy by arguing she makes up the rules.
