ACHIEVING OUR VISION AND STRATEGY Advice Champions Are you passionate about the rights of the people in your community? Are you already trying to help people with their problems? Would you like some support in the help you give to people, particularly those falling into debt and facing extreme hardship? If so, we would like to meet you. Advice Nottingham is setting up a group of Advice Champions who will work in different communities across Nottingham City. They will play a crucial role in supporting local people by offering support, guidance and advice to people affected financially by inflation, cuts in benefits and soaring energy and fuel prices. What will an Advice Champion do? Advice Champions will undergo a comprehensive training programme. This will enable them to give advice on money management, debt, benefits and welfare reform to members of their community. They will have access to a network of experienced and specialist advisors, who can give information and take on more complex cases. Advice Champions can enrol members of their community on a free financial capability training course – ‘Money Matters’. On successful completion of the course a participant will not only have gained a better understanding of money management, but will also receive an academic qualification – Level 2 accreditation. Advice Champions will have the opportunity to attend regular Forums in which they can discuss and seek solutions to the challenges facing their community. Who would be an ideal Advice Champion? People who are already helping their community and doing paid or unpaid work within it. People who wish to increase their knowledge of welfare issues and keep up to date with the reforms, thereby enabling them to become an invaluable source of information for their community. Team players Good listeners who can treat members of their community with empathy and understanding. What training and support will an Advice Champion be given?
