ACL Synopsis Day 2 Starting the day in a slightly crappy mood - TopicsExpress

ACL Synopsis Day 2 Starting the day in a slightly crappy mood due to UTs continuing failure to seize opportunity as a result of poor offensive coaching and poor special teams play. At least the rain has subsided... Get to Zilker in time to catch the last 15 minutes of Tune Yards. Not quite ready to brave the mud pit to get near stage. Looks/sounds good from the distance. Opt to go to the beer tent to get a microbrew and update on the Baylor score. Interpol. Sounds pretty good, though Ive seen them plenty of times before in more dynamic situations. If Paul Banks has aged this much, I must be pretty old. Stop splashing me, people. Still reliably tight... Interpols sound works better at night. Ok. Iggy Azalea - Jessica Barker Atkinson is pushing this, so Im quite interested in checking it out. Of course shes on the cluster f stage and of course shes more popular than most of the bands on main stages. C3 productions - if you need a $500/hr logistics analytics consultant to help you resolve your perpetual stage scheduling problems, call me. Im not qualified, but I guarantee Im better than whoever is in charge of that function now. That said, I quite like Iggy. Shes kind of vacuous, but girl can both sing and rap and I like the Diplo beats. She can also twerk. Interesting to see Bounce beats this popped up. Lana del Rey - I may be one of the few cool people who likes Lizzy Grant. Carles from hipster runoff is an idiot, so I tend to disregard the venomous blog hate. After battling legions of evil a-hole chair people, we get a spot 200 feet near the speaker. ACL, why does your giant tower of festival speakers seem to put out less sound than my bluetooth boom box??? Anyhow, Lana sounds good and can legitimately sing. Did her daddy buy her that impressive band? I dont really care. Set turned into a heated debate between myself and my wife about Lanas anti-feminist persona. My contention is that it is great theatre like say Sharon Stones character in Casino or like Gone Girl... Shes playing a part. Her needy bad girl schtick rubs Jessica the wrong way, but she admits her music is good. The fact that she inspired a 30 minute discussion about feminism in pop culture between my wife and I, certainly indicates that shes pushing cultural buttons and challenging people which is something I respect. We go to get food. Of course Major Lazer is on Cluster F stage. Remind me to boycott retail me not for sponsoring this disaster. C3 - my logistics consulting offer still stands. We trounce through gargantuan mud hole to catch some of the show, but then I need to go to the bathroom. Doh. This might be the best show of the day. Walk by beer tent and broken bells to go to bathroom. Broken bells is empty on a MUCH bigger stage than Major Lazer. C3 - Im serious about that consulting thing. Debating leaving early but wander over to catch the opening of Eminem from the distance. Im not super excited about a misogynist homophobe douche bag rapper who is well known for his live lip syncing, but what the heck. Lots of BS pomp in the intro. Then the rapping drops and sounds like crap despite the likely lip syncing. I cant believe this clown is the main headliner. Catch a bit of Skrillex on the way out. Reminds me of happy hardcore in the late 90s. Fun, dumb guilty pleasure. The 10 year olds sure seem to dig it, despite all the motherf bombs. Im too OCD to follow this stuff. Thats why I prefer repetitive minimal tech house and IDM. The wife, who leans ADHD, cant get enough. I cant say I hate it. If he hadnt pre-sequenced all of this, is actually say he was quite talented. PS - I say it every year... Chair people effin ruin ACL. Go to a real festival like Coachella where chairs are not allowed and see how much better it is. I propose that one of the two weekends be chair free. C3 - Im telling you, Im willing to carve out time from my busy schedule to consult you on how to run your festival.
