ACN planning to attack our aspirants - PDP The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has raised the alarm over alleged “grand plot” by the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the state to attack some of its governorship aspirants. According to a statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekit,i on Thursday, Ekiti PDP claimed that “the plot was hatched somewhere in Lagos State and a top official of the state government was involved.” In the statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, the PDP alleged that “the sum of N10 million was given as an advance payment by the said official to hired assassins,” claiming that the ruling party was after its aspirants because “it felt the PDP was a great threat to its chances of winning next year’s governorship poll.” But the ACN denied the allegation, saying the accusation was illogical as “the ACN is rather known as a party that loves the people and the people loves it.” The Publicity Secretary of Ekiti ACN, Prince Tunde Adeleke, who spoke on behalf of the party, said it was what the PDP was planning that it was alleging, saying his party was a lover of people and a promoter of people’s welfare and would not do such a thing. Adeleke said: “Professor Wole Soyinka had described the PDP as a nest of killers and Ekiti people are watching out. Any untoward action will not be tolerated. The PDP is only crying wolves where there is none.” The PDP said one of those drafted into the plot told an aspirant in the party of the grand plot and that some money had been paid through an account belonging to the state government. “Ekiti PDP is already aware of the antics of the ACN. Our party has since discovered that the ACN has been responsible for the violence and killings in the state in the last 10 years, but had been accusing the PDP of the dastardly acts,” the party alleged. The party, therefore, called on security agencies and well-meaning Ekiti people to take note of the situation, saying it harboured no killer in its fold. The accusation by the PDP came on the heel of a similar alarm raised by former Governor Ayo Fayose that some people were after his life.
