ACTION ALERT. ACTION ALERT! ACTION ALERT: Due to popular demand, the MEDICAL CANNABIS RALLY scheduled for next Tues (Sept 02) evening at 630 pm, outside the OBA caucus meeting, will include not just patients and family members, but the general public as well. IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND, THERE ARE THINGS YOU MUST KNOW for the purposes of public safety and order. The protest is being carefully orchestrated with the Bermuda Police, since high franking officials will be present. YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THE VENUE, THE PURPOSE, AND THE FORM OF THE RALLY, so everyones rights can be protected. 1. WHY then and there? Patients (some of whom are terminal) are protesting Govts Jan announcement that medical license applications would be accepted, followed by secret Govt cancellation of the programme AFTER the patients spent their last time and money scurrying around from doctor to doctor, getting their applications together. 2. HOW will the protest take place? Patients are not allowed to impede any person from freedom of movement, and yet through a stroke of one patients creative genius, we will be trapping OBA officials in the caucus meeting until the Premier talks face to face with the patients, informally, without time limits and sound bites, and with real, engaged dialog. The means by which officials will be trapped is via a chain made of soft, easily tearable paper links. If an official wishes to leave that caucus meeting without some legitimate childcare or health-related need, he or she will have to break that chain in front of the media, and be seen to be fleeing patients who claim they were lied to. 3. WHAT WE MUST NOT DO: We must not impede any foot traffic or vehicles along Reid Street. That means we have to line up single file on the sidewalk, in either direction, East and West of the OBA HQ (next to the Music Box on Reid St). We will be respectful, and not angry, at all times. We are Assertive, not Aggressive. 4. WHO CAN DO WHAT? We are asking for patients and caregivers (including family members) to be front and center, and we suggest that those who support them stand back, away from the door were blocking.
