ACTION ALERT MEDICARE PART D Tomorrow, the Health Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee is holding a hearing on CMS Proposed New Rules to Medicare Part D. As you know, many of the proposed rules are critically important and will bring fairness and equity for pharmacy providers in the Part D program. PBMs already have launched a strong effort to defeat these rules PHARMACY NEEDS YOUR HELP NOW! Three Texas Congressmen serve on this subcommittee. See below if your pharmacy or residence is in or near their districts. If so, please call their office TODAY. Ask for the staff person assigned to the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee. Tell them: ·about your pharmacy; where it is; how many people you employ; how long your store has served your community; your long standing commitment to serving Seniors within your community ·that the State of Texas and the federal government rely on you, as a valuable healthcare provider, to provide important healthcare services for your senior patients, including (if applicable) diabetic counseling, medication therapy management, immunizations, compounding, IV infusions, and durable medical equipment. PROPOSED RULES WILL HELP YOU SERVE YOUR SENIOR PATIENTS Let your Congressman know you support the following More Pharmacy Provider Choice Results in Better Care For Seniors Restricted networks mean restricted access to care. Rather than limiting seniors to those pharmacies that the drug plan has arbitrarily deemed preferred pharmacies, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is proposing letting any pharmacy willing to accept a drug plans terms and conditions to serve their local seniors. Your patients would have greater choice among preferred pharmacies at no added cost. This will particularly benefit seniors in underserved rural areas, where currently the nearest preferred pharmacy may be 20 miles away or more. No Requirements for Mail Order True patient choice between local, community pharmacies and mail order. Many seniors prefer talking to their pharmacist face-to-face. They value the care they receive at their local, hometown pharmacy. CMS proposes to eliminate higher co-pay amounts for Seniors who prefer to use a local, community pharmacy - many of which provide same-day, home delivery. Improved Patient Outcomes Through Medication Therapy Management Improved patient care through more patient access to medication therapy management (MTM). CMS has proposed expanding coverage of MTM consultations between pharmacists and their patients. These in-depth medication reviews have been shown to help improve health outcomes and reduce overall medical costs, by improving adherence to prescribed medication and avoiding costlier treatments, such as hospitalizations.
