ACTIVIST SPOTLIGHT (CANADA): Lia Grimanis, CEO of Up With Women — which provides services for women at risk — fled from a violent home as a teen and fought depression and suicidal thoughts while living in shelters and managed to turn around her life. She attempted to set a Guinness World Record by pulling a 13,600-kilogram Bombardier 605 Challenger jet 25 metres but couldn’t get the aircraft to budge outside of a hangar. She may have fallen short of setting a world record for pulling a jet, but she believes she succeeded in putting the spotlight on the need to combat violence against women.
