ACTORS: This clip is 100% the theory I subscribe to. I am always hanging and meeting with the actor before I work with them. Even if I want to create a role for them, I like to meet even if its just shooting hoops at DAVE and Ns. Maybe I see something about them..a style a nuance....so you hang and get to know their personality. THIS VIDEO IS PRIME TIME example of why I do it. CHRISTOPHER NOLAN did this with MATTHEW in a 3 hour hang meeting where they didnt even talk about the script. But I understood why he did it. In recent situations, this industry is about CASTING and meeting someone on the set. NA not me, The Bigger the project, especially character studies..I wanna get to know you. Know who I am working with (not who is working under me but who I am working with)..its an old school theory that is lacking in 2014. Actors are busy doing this doing that (including clubbing and partying) and dont have time to meet up with a business/creative mind that could possibly (key is possibly) change the course of their life. Its cool, but its good to know I am not the only director who wants a personal connection in their product. For the show I did in Sept, I personally wrote the storyline for 90% of the actors after interaction. How did that turn out? A thunderous applause and two standing ovations at the need of the event!
