ADM vs ADMX ADM is Token based Administrative template and ADMX is XML based file format. Administrative templates are the files defining the registry based settings that appear in GPOs. The ADM files used to be stored in the sysvol folder of a domain controller causing a condition called “sysvol bloat”. Each ADM used 4MB of storage. Now we use a central store to keep all these together. The location by default is \%systemroot%\PolicyDefinitions or C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions. Creating a Software Store. You must move the entire folder located at \%systemroot%\PolicyDefinitions or C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions into C:\Windows\SYSVOL\sysvol\Graham.net\Policies folder in order to make the central Store.
