☆ADMIN☆ Before the Meet The Admins bus leaves Iowa.. ( before we get sucked into some sort of late night corn shucking festival or something) I Figured we had a few minutes to kill.. and ask another of the newer staff members a few questions. Good Afternoon Paul Mertz..Thanks for meeting with me... So when you signed on to be an Admin.. was it what you expected ? PAUL : Heck no it is not. It is so much more not only do you get to oversee the CIC page. I have made what I like to call good friends in the rest of the admin staff. So how did you first hear about the Cast Iron Cooking Group? PAUL: My pastors wife lead me here she knew I enjoyed cast iron cooking. and recommended I join after taking a look I joined. So whats your background when it comes to cooking? PAUL: I like to cook as a teenager I worked in a café mostly washing dishes and kitchen help. then started cooking breakfast for my mens group at church. Are you a collector or user or both? PAUL : I collect some but use all I have at one time or another. I do have 2 pieces I havent cooked in yet. Whats your favorite method of cleaning? PAUL: when cleaning a piece to restore I use an E-tank. I consider it a one stop cleaning machine. after cooking I rinse, scrub with brush and if needed a little soap, but only on well seasoned pieces. Oscar admitted to not liking the litter box cake, for me its liver and onions...what is it that makes Paul M... a bit icky ? Paul: Me too Greg liver has a texture to it that I cant stand. enough said. All this Joking around that got started..someone making up the story about Rob waering panty hose...and then Oscar saying something about you and romance and Goats.... thats all just good fun isnt it... I mean..you dont really find goats attractive like he said do ya? Paul : If I remember right it was you Greg that made the first wise crack about me and goats. I told you that was to be our little secret. lol.( ok one thing I seem to notice among all thses admin... they drink alot.. and they seem to wanna blame me) Besides I havent found a pretty enough goat yet. As to Rob wearing pantyhose dont knock it til you have tried it. ( no comment) What other hobbies do you have? Paul : I love to fish around here it is cat fish and farm ponds. like to camp with family and friends. Where I do all the cooking. What is your favorite piece of cast Iron? PAUL : I have a Griswold double skillet that I use a lot. it is on old big block logo 80 got it at yard sale along with so other pieces for 15.00. If the zombies were coming and you could only keep one piece of cast iron... what would it be..? PAUL : I cant settle on one piece of ci one would have to be the Gris and the other would be my wifes big ole dutch oven. Do you have any advice to pass on to anyone just getting into cast iron? PAUL : Well besides the no fire rule. take your time and buy what you want and will use. unless you are going to collect then have at it but better have deep pockets. Arm Wrasslin... Oscar vs. MaryBeth...who ya bet on? PAUL : I bet on Oscar always cheering on the underdog. lol I think Marybeth could take him. PAUL : would also like to say that if anybody is unhappy with me blame it all on Oscar he is the one that nominated me for this job. I think he owes me a Spider Thanks for your time Paul... ( note... regardless of what anywitness might come foreward and add.. after the interview paul and I may have visited with a couple of the locals..drinks were bought...numbers were given pauls anyway... I am pretty sure these ladies didnt have a cell phone...nor would the farmer let them use the house phone... but I can see how Oscar Leonard Albretsen and Paul started this little Fued... I just dont know how poor Rob got involved. ..perhaps when I visit him I will know more) ... anyway.... dont let Paul get yer goat... as it were
