ADT WELCOMES RETURN OF CHANG HWA OPEN FOR 2014 The Chang Hwa Open will return onto the Asian Development Tour (ADT) Schedule for the second consecutive year this October, raising the current season’s schedule to a total of 14 tournaments. Following its successful staging last year where local young gun Hung Chien-yao claimed his maiden win on the ADT, the US$100,000 Chinese Taipei event will be held once again at the highly rated Chang Hwa Golf Club from October 16 to 19. The Chang Hwa Open, which has been staged previously on the local circuit, will celebrate its 15th edition this year. The rising stars from Chinese Taipei will once again compete against an international field from the ADT, which is the gateway to the premier Asian Tour. The ADT continues to offer Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points for the second consecutive year. Through the world ranking status, players will have a chance to qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The ADT will also enter an exciting development this season where the top five players at the end of the season will gain playing rights for the 2015 Asian Tour season. Only the top-three spots were offered Asian Tour cards since the ADT’s launch in 2010. Chang Hwa Golf Club’s Board Chairman, Tu Tieh-shiung said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with the ADT which has yielded much success for both our local players and the other players on the ADT. We hope our players can continue to gain more playing experience and bring their game up another level through this tournament.” President of the Taiwan PGA, Yeh Chang-ting, who is a former winner on the Asian Tour, hailed the return of Chang Hwa Open on the ADT. “The ADT is a very good platform for upcoming players as they will gain exposure by playing with leading players from across the region and internationally. Our players will also have the opportunity to earn world ranking points and I am confident the tournament will continue to grow,” said Yeh. Asian Tour Chairman Kyi Hla Han also expressed his delight on the return of the Chang Hwa Open onto the ADT schedule. “On behalf of the ADT, I would like to thank Chang Hwa Golf Club and the Taiwan PGA for their continuous support,” said Han. “There are a lot of young talents coming up in Chinese Taipei and we hope that these players can harness and nurture their games on the ADT before taking it to a higher level on the Asian Tour,” added Han. Chinese Taipei golfers have proven their worth on the ADT over the past few years. Highly-rated Chan Shih-chang and Hung both created headlines when they claimed their maiden wins in 2013. In 2012, Hsieh Chi-hsien also claimed his first ADT win on home soil while Hsu Mong-nan finished in the top three of the Order of Merit in 2012 to secure his Asian Tour card. The ADT, which was launched in 2010 with five tournaments before growing to eight in 2011, 13 in 2012 and a record 16 in the 2013 season, has established itself as a successful platform for upcoming players to gain entry on the region’s premier Tour.
