ADVICE NEEDED for Special Mom #psnm00328 I never ask for - TopicsExpress

ADVICE NEEDED for Special Mom #psnm00328 I never ask for personal advise but I’m feeling a little concerned…. Angel will be finishing up with middle school on June 12th. His 8th grade promotion dance is this Thursday after school. I signed the permission slip and paid for the ticket but am now having second thoughts about him going. I called the school to find out details about the dance and just learned Angel is the only student from Special Ed that turned in a permission slip. So in essence the only “special student” going. I asked the teacher if he was friends with any of the general population kids, but her response to me was that she sees a lot of kids say “hi” to him, but that’s about it. So, he may feel awkward looking for someone to hang around with. What if the kids are mean? On the other hand, they may be okay and include him, I just don’t know. I wish I could make myself invisible and be there with him. This is the perfect example why I always push for inclusion, on everything, but the stupid schools, do what they want anyway and separate them all the time. This really gets to me. If you’re a parent of a special child; push for inclusion as much as possible. The general ed students need exposure our kids just much as our kids need them. Should I let him go?
