ADVICE PLEASE: Sapphire (shes 7) has never been an eager learner. My other two were, so it was difficult but I just let her learn at her own pace. However, shes now in first grade and I feel she is behind because of that (and the fact that St. Louis Public Schools dont CARE). We practice an hour a day on spelling, reading, etc. She LOVES to learn now, always asks questions, etc, but I feel like shes not retaining the information we are teaching her. We do it in fun ways - songs, jokes, flash cards, however she wants to do it - but five minutes later she forgets how to spell simple words like pool. Weve tried Phonics, memorization, and other methods with websites like Spelling City, Starfall, etc. Just wondering if you guys have any suggestions - her teacher doesnt seem concerned, but I am. Am I overreacting? I dont want her to get even more behind.
