ADVISEMENT Attention Junior Parents: The counselors will be conducting Junior Advisement appointments beginning January 21 and continuing through March. We will be mailing home postcards to our junior families inviting the student and his/her parent/guardian to meet with their counselor to discuss senior year classes; graduation requirements and college plans will be the focus of these discussions. The meetings will be scheduled with a specific appointment time during school hours; if you cannot make the time we have allocated for you and your student, the postcard will offer directions on how to reschedule. The postcards were mailed out the week of January 6. The format of Junior Advisement will include: (1) a 15-minute small group meeting with parents and students to hear general advisement information from one of the counselors; (2) a 30-minute meeting with your personal counselor; and then (3) the student will complete an online college search to get started on their post-secondary exploration. We look forward to meeting with you in the New Year. Attention Freshmen Parents: In the late February timeframe, Freshman Advisement appointments will be held after school. More details will be posted in the Hound Highlights regarding how parents can call to schedule an appointment time. Freshmen Advisement is a time for parents and their 9th grade students to discuss subject-specific topics with a teacher representative from each subject area. Topics to be discussed will include: (1) the sequence of classes in that particular subject; and (2) the creation of a four year plan based on how their student is doing in the classes they are currently taking. A counselor will give an overview to the student and parents at the end of the meeting. Attention Sophomore Parents: In February the counselors will be visiting sophomore AOs to conduct Sophomore Status Checks. During this time, a status report will be distributed to each student indicating where they stand with regard to their graduation requirements. The students will be instructed to take these status reports home. All of these advisement appointments will help your student plan for their future class selections during the March registration process.
