AFTER banging in an impressive nine goals in the first 11 matches of the 2013 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season, Chicken Inn’s centre striker Tendai Ndoro is now a wanted man. The 25-year-old striker’s exploits on the pitch have attracted the attention of a number of South African teams and he is already on the radar of that country’s Premiership side Amazulu. Amazulu are tracking Ndoro and The Herald understands that the Durban-based side have already asked their assistant coach Wilfred Mugeyi, a former Zimbabwe international striker, to “spy” on the Chicken Inn hitman. In fact, an impeccable source, who is close to Amazulu, said yesterday that the club are looking for a centre striker who can bang in an average of 15 goals per season after they escaped relegation from the Absa South African Premiership by the skin of their teeth during the 2012-2013 season which ended last month. And Amazulu have decided to cast their net wide in their search of a free-scoring centre striker and they have identified Chicken Inn’s Ndoro as one of their main targets after they got wind of his scoring exploits at the Bulawayo-based Zimbabwean Premiership side. “After escaping relegation by a whisker last season, Amazulu would like bolster their squad by bringing in a number of new faces and they are also looking for a striker who can score an average of 15 goals per season. “Remember, the leading goalscorer in the Absa Premiership last season scored 13 goals? “So, Amazulu think that if they can get a good centre striker who can score at least 15 league goals per season, they can be able to hold their own in the next championship race and they have asked their assistant coach Wilfred Mugeyi to look for this kind of person. “And Mugeyi is quite aware of Chicken Inn’s Tendai Ndoro’s goal-scoring exploits there in Zimbabwe and they (Amazulu) would like him to come to have a trial period with them at the end of this month during their pre-season preparations. “He (Ndoro) can make an impact here in South Africa because they (Amazulu) need someone who can put the ball behind the net 15 times or more... They are looking for a good foreign striker,” said the South Africa-based source, who asked not to be named for professional reasons. When contacted yesterday, Ndoro said he was quite aware that his recent form has caught the eye of a number of teams and they include a number of South African clubs among his suitors. “Yes, I am aware that a number of clubs are after my signature following my recent good form in the league and they include a number of South African teams but they are yet to officially contact or approach my club Chicken Inn. “But if any team, especially those from South Africa, approach my club seeking my services, I will not hesitate to grab this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me because I really love to go and ply my trade there... I’m ready to go and play professional football in South Africa,” Ndoro said. He also indicated that he was not keen on joining a Zimbabwean side and the lure of the South African rand might see him joining the “Great Trek” Down South in the not-too-distant future. Although not a flashy striker in terms of skill, Ndoro has proved his reliability in front of goal with some excellent finishes. He knows how to position himself in the box and it appears the 25-year-old has been working hard on his game as shown by his marked improvement this season. The lanky striker has plied his trade outside Zimbabwe before as he spent some time turning out for Botswana Premiership side Nico United before he returned home in June 2010 to join Chicken Inn. Upon his return from Botswana, the former Railstars youth team player was not an instant hit at Chicken Inn but he has taken the Zimbabwean Premiership by storm this year with his predatory instincts which has seen him scoring an incredible nine goals in the 11 league matches that his Bulawayo-based side Chicken Inn have played so far this season. And this has seen a number of teams hovering over his head with the intention of snatching him away from the Gamecocks and among them are South African Premiership side Amazulu.
