AGREE with Myron Ng s Root of the Problem as it represents the silent majority views. For the the people who disagree we will not be able to change their mind because of their family upbringing, friends and in their society they are brought up in - Western style democracy! I like Myron Ngs earlier piece where he expressed his views from the analogy of parental relationship is a good one. If we accept the relationship of the government and the people as that of parents and children we will not be in the streets protesting......with respect for each other! A bad parent is liken to a CORRUPT government that warrants public condemnation while a good parent is liken to GOOD government that sometime make mistakes as any good parents would that was done with the best interest for their children in mind. ONLY mistakes made by bad / corrupt ones done with self interest would only justify public outcry. HK Government is good, maybe not as good a parent with some bad cousins (selfish and rude officials/politicians) BUT with all good intentions. Singapores success is due to the ASIAN STLYE DEMOCRACY setup by our first Prime Minister Lee Kwan Yew. In the 70s and 80s my business suffered from the Singapore Governments Policies but I accepted because it was made by the Government who thought at that time was made in the best interest of the people. Singapores Asian style democracy rule has resulted in making Singapore one of the smallest nation in the world without any natural resources but its people. Hong Kongs freedom has not lessen, opposite is true as Hong Kong today has more freedom to express than the colonial days. The ups and downs, is liken to ones familys financial turmoil. Do we complain or leave our parents just because they lost their jobs, bankrupted and cannot provide our needs? So lets AGREE TO DISAGREE as I cannot see I am able to change your opposing views!
