AGRO INPUTS-SALES OUTLOOK MKUSHI-11-08-2014-ZANIS---Agro Companies in Mkushi District have recorded mixed fortunes in sales of Agro-inputs since the beginning of the year. From one of the Companies, MRI’s Manager Steve Selemani, revealed that fungicide and herbicide chemicals had sold better this year compared to the 2012-2013 farming season. Mr Selemani said that the sales pertaining to conservation farming tools had done fairly well in this period, whilst sales of maize seed had increased compared to last year. He however admitted to a drop in sales of soya bean seed saying that this was due to Farmers opting to recycle the seed that they had used in the previous season. He maintained that his company was hopeful that more Farmers would diversify their crop production, adding that such a move would impact positively on MRI’s products turnover. From another Company, Zambian Fertilizers Manager Bosco Samangwe said that sales had been on the increase for merchendize such as vegetable mixer fertilizer. Mr Samangwe noted that sales for Urea and D compound fertilzer had been overtaken by the demand from farmers. He said that his Company was gratified to learn that merchendize such as crop specific fertilizers were recording steady progress this season amongst small scale farmers. He attributed the improved turnover in sales to the growing popularity of fertilizer brands that had organic and lime content. Issues pertaining to the sales outlook for Agro Companies attract much attention from Mkushi District Administration annually.
