"AI for probe into killings in IOK due to use of force by troops" Global Human Rights Watchdog, the Amnesty International has urged the puppet authorities in occupied Kashmir to conduct a full, impartial and effective investigation into all instances of use of force by Indian troops and police that resulted in killing or injuring of protesters in the territory. Amnesty International India chapter in a statement in New Delhi said that the troops and police personnel involved in the killings, including those with command responsibility, must be prosecuted in a competent, independent and impartial civilian court. The Amnesty said that the authorities in the occupied territory must avoid excessive use of force against the demonstrators. It said that dozens of people had been injured in many parts of occupied Kashmir in widespread clashes between Indian forces and protestors that began on July 18 when four people were killed by the troops in Ramban district. “Amnesty International India calls on authorities in Jammu and Kashmir to protect the right to life in accordance with the constitution of India and international law – including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which India is a state party,” it added. The statement said that the troops and police personnel must always apply non-violent means before resorting to the use of force. “They must use force with restraint, and only when it is absolutely necessary and proportional to the threat to public safety,” it further said.
