AIDE MEMOIRE 10/24/14: GAWAD GOBERNADOR SA KAPALIGIRAN (PENRO-LGU) To tag along right after one of the most awaited major events is Sorsogon’s Kasanggayahan Festival this year – the “Pantomina sa Tinampo,” is the Gawad Gobernador Sa Kapaligiran which will take place at the Capitol Park in Sorsogon City. Sorsogon Governor Raul R. Lee issued Executive Order #11 dated June 1, 2012 on Gawad Gobernador sa Kapaligiran - thereby reviving the “Search for the Cleanest and Greenest Local Government Units in the Province of Sorsogon” under the Clean and Green Program, with the view to generate broader multi-sectoral advocacy, recognition and support towards a clean and green environment fit for human existence and ultimately rehabilitate and sustain the integrity of the environment. Likewise, the Department of Interior and Local Government integrates an instrument that would measure the Local Government Unit’s (LGUs) preparedness to the changing environment and temperature, not only limiting to the clean and green aspect thus, arriving at the Search for the Cleanest, Greenest and Disaster Prepared LGU. The Search for the Cleanest, Greenest and Disaster Prepared LGU primarily aims to inculcate in the minds of Sorsoganons the values of self-discipline, self-reliance, resourcefulness, cooperation, cleanliness, environmental awareness and resiliency. It likewise yearns to transform rural and urban areas across the province into clean, green and disaster-ready communities that are healthy, safe and pleasant to live in. With least expense to the government, it specifically intends to mobilize all sectors of society to actively participate in community development efforts and help in the transformation of their communities. The search would also serve as an institutionalized system of providing incentives and rewards to the cleanest, greenest and disaster prepared municipalities and city in the province.
