AIDS/LifeCycle Day Zero: I want to thank everyone for the support you haven given me in this endeavor. I will attempt to send you an update as to my progress each day of the ride -- assuming I have connectivity. Today we dropped off our bikes at the Cow Palace, attended a saftey video, received the rider number labels for our bikes and helmets, and a wrist band to identify what type of meals we signed up for. There are tags for luggage, tent and person. I want to tell you that I am very impressed by the level of organization and attention to detail the staff has put together for this event. The only problem of course was the fact that I was only one of 3000 people doing this, so most of day was spent standing in lines. OH, and the last stop at orientation is to sign up for next years ride, which I did, of course. The same organizational skils are equally apparent in the way the SF AIDS Foundation carries out its work. Its administrative and fund raising overhead is one of the lowest percentages of funds raised by a non-profit in the nation. You can be assured that your donations are going to the services the Foundation provides. Tomorrow we arrive at the Cow Palace at 5:00am for opening ceremonies and ride out at 6:30. You are welcome to line the street to see us off. The route takes us to Lake Merced then South on Skyline Blvd to Neuava Day School in Hillsbourgh for a rest stop. (I should be there about 8:30 if you missed the send-off at the Cow Palace) We continue down Skyline to Hwy 92 then over the hill to Half Moon Bay. We then follow the coast and have lunch at San Gregoio State Beach. All the climbing is done for the day and we then cruise down Hwy 1 to Santa Cruz. First night camp is at Harvey West Park. (82.5 miles done, only 459.5 to go).
