AIFRTE’s Odisha State Level Coordination Committee Formed with Prof. Nilamani Sahoo as Chairman Odisha - All India Sikshya Sangharsh Yatra will start on 2nd Nov 10am from Utkal University Campus, Bhubaneswar On behalf of All India Forum For Right to Education (AIFRTE) a Preparatory Meeting was organized on 27th October 2014 at Lohiya Academy, Unit-9, Bhubaneswar. Ramesh Patnaik Secretariat Member of AIFRTE participated and explained the aims and objectives of AIFRTE and the relevance of the All India Sikshya Sangharsh Yatra (AISSY) -2014 which will be organized from 2nd November to 4th December in All India level. On the same day 2nd November from various States and Union Teritories along with five Zonal Yatras will start from north-east, south, north, east & west of India to salute the indominatable spirit of IROM SHARMILA who symbolizes Gandhian resistance through satyagrah against state atrocities and for democratic, just and humane india through her historic fast started on this date 14 years ago. All this yatra’s will culminate in Bhopal on 4th December 2014 in solidarity with the 30 year long struggle of LAKHS OF BHOPAL GAS VICTIMS for medical relief, rehabilition and justice and against exploitative, oppressive and dehumanizing global capitalism represented by Union Carbide-Dow Chemicals’ collusion with the Indian State before, during and after the world’s biggest industrial disaster. The newly formed Odisha state level coordination committee of AIFRTE decided that the Eastern Zonal Yatra will start from Utakal University (Vani Vihar) Campus on 2nd November 2014 and it will reach Kharaghpur on 6th November evening via Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore etc. From Kharaghpur West Bengal Committee will take over this Yatra. On the whole way many colleges, universities, other education institutions will be covered by the yatra. Organized meetings and street corner meetings will held. Large scale leaflet distribution, campaigning will be done for Education is not for producing workforce for global market’s loot but for meeting socio-economic and cultural needs of the people and for building a democratic, socialist, secular and enlightened society by promoting equality, social justice and plurality: liberating it from communal, casteist, patriarchal, sectarian and anti disability prejudices, discrimination, irrationality and superstitions: and inculcating critical consciousness for social transformation. It will mainly campaigning for FULLY STATE FUNDED COMMON EDUCATION FROM ‘KG TO PG’ including common neighbourhood school system up to Class XII, through the medium of mother tongue in multi-lingual context which alone can pave the path for absolutely free, democratic, scientific, egalitarian & humane education of eqitable quality at all levels. It understand and will campaign for The constitutional vision of right to education cannot be achieved without fighting to demolish the neo-liberal policies of allowing profit making in education, siphoning public assets and funds to private managements under Public-Private Partnership (PPP), FDI, reducing education to tradable service under WTO-GATS and undermining the purpose of education by subserving the market through communalization, regimentation and enslavement of minds. To organize this Yatra and to start a massive education movement in Odisha this coordination committee formed with prominent leaders, activists working in different fields, academicians etc like Prof. Nilamani Sahoo, Srimanta Mohanty, Ashok Nanda, Dr Madhusudan Mishra, Sivaram, Nisikant, Radhakant Sethy, Rumita kundu, Swayamprava Sahoo, Sabyasachi Mohapatra, Surendra Behera, Advocate Bibek Ranjan, Dr Sameer Ranjan, Sankar Sahu, Hrusikesh Sadangi, Kahnu Behuria, Mahendra Parida, Umakanta Mishra, Prasikha Negi, Razak Kadir, Soumya Ranjan Swain, Asutosh Parida, Sanatan jena etc. This committee is formed as an adhoc committee. Expansion of the committee with cooption will continue. In this preparatory meeting many others also participated among with prominent leader of the odisha Mr Prafulla Samantaray, president Lok Shakti Abhiyan. Odisha yatra will end on 6th Nov at kharaghpur but the month long campaigning in all over Odisha will continued in different districts. It will organize seminars, discussions, dharanas etc in many district head quarters and in other areas. On the culmination day i.e on 4th December it will organize a Dharana at Bhubaneswar with the demands of AIFRTE and AISSY.
