AIP to engage mainstream, separatists, UJC for revocation of AFSPA Srinagar, Sep 12: Police on Thursday foiled “Secretariat Gheraov” called by Awami Itehad Party (AIP) in protest against Shopian killings. Police used batons and water cannons to disperse the protestors. While talking to GNS AIP spokesperson, Showkat Nadvi said the recent killings in Shopian are the direct outcome of Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) which is giving forces impunity to kill innocent people in Kashmir. Nadvi while informing the party’s upcoming joint strategy we will involve all mainstream politicians, separatists and even Jihad Council to pave way for revocation of AFSPA and other draconian laws in Kashmir. “We will appeal United Jihad Council and other organizations to go for ceasefire so that normalcy restores in Valley which will support revocation of black laws,’’ Nadvi said. President, Awami Itehad Party (AIP) Er. Abdul Rasheed while talking to GNS said we demand immediate arrest of culprits involved in Shopian killings. “Those who are involved in innocent killings must be brought before public and must be given stern punishment,” he said. Rashid further said: “We want to describe the reality of Kashmir to Indians who are unaware of the plight of Kashmir and the real situation there as “what’s going on here.” Meanwhile, AIP President and his supporters were detained in the preventive custody and were released late afternoon.
