AL-MAKURA SURVIVES IMPEACHMENT AS PANEL DISMISSES ALL CHARGES Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Umaru Al-makura, has been cleared of allegations of gross misconduct leveled against him by the State House of Assembly. The seven-man panel headed by Yusuf Shehu Usman and constituted by the Chief Judge to probe the governor Tuesday dismissed all the 16-charges leveled against him. Prompt News had reported on Monday that the probe panel may dismiss the allegations because the Assembly refused to send representation before the panel to substantiate the various allegations having been duly served. “Prompt News can authoritatively report that the panel may have no other option than to dismiss the allegations against the governor, going by its rules of procedure. “Paragraph 7 subsection c of the panel’s rules of procedure states that” where the House of Assembly Fails or neglects to appear and lead evidence in proof of the allegations, the panel upon proof of service may dismiss the allegations”, we had reported on Monday. The panel concluded its work after hearing from Governor Al-makura, on Monday even though he insisted he was not served and the Assembly’s lead counsel, Ocha Ulegede, made presentation who on Tuesday. It will be recalled that the lawmakers had after directing the State Chief Judge to set up a probe panel kicked against its composition and asked him to disband it and set up another one. The lawmakers had alleged that the panel comprises of party members, arguing that appointment of party members into the panel runs contrary to the provision of Section 188 of the constitution which deals with such matter.
