AL SHARPTON / GEORGE ZIMMERMAN Sharpton is calling for vigils and rallies in 100 cities this weekend to press for federal civil rights charges against George Zimmerman. Currently, the Justice Department is investigating whether Zimmerman violated Trayvon Martin’s civil rights when he shot him; the FBI had already concluded there was no such violation. Does Sharpton think these rallies will “sway” the Justice Department? Or maybe the bigger question is: WILL the rallies sway the Justice Department? And IF so … is that how justice is carried out in our nation? Protests, rallies, statements from the White House and Attorney General appeared to push police and prosecutors to issue criminal charges against Zimmerman --- when they had originally decided the evidence didn’t support charges. Now, we have a verdict that not all accept … so they want to find another way to punish a man found “not guilty”. It is a Constitutional Right for anyone to attend these vigils and rallies … but in the end, will they do anything other than possibly incite non-peaceful acts and build Sharpton’s ego? While those are underway this weekend, we will wait to see how many are murdered in Chicago and other cities across our nation. DNAinfo bills itself as Chicago’s leading neighborhood news source.
