ALERT: LONG READ (Youre laying on your bed or eating breakfast right now. Take a breath and continue reading my little story if you have a few minutes.) Sitting here in Albuquerque, New Mexico, taking in the surprisingly cold air. I looked outside Nicoles home yesterday and saw mountains virtually within arms length. I was blown away! A LOT! Although this may not seem like a very big deal to most.... to me it was mesmerizing. It took me several minutes to compose myself. I was left wondering how I got here. A little while ago I was introduced and fell in love with kizomba. Roughly 6 months ago I made a very conscious decision to dedicate more time and effort to become a better dancer in this beautiful dance. With a little motivation from my Twanna(my original kizomba boo) I decided to take my first big vacation to Miami for the Miami Beach Kizomba Festival 2015(although it was 2014 of course) There I was introduced to some amazing instructors who altered my entire perspective and view on kizomba. While there I met soooooo many new people with whom I am still connected and actively follow here on The Facebook. Hey guys! I was introduced to kuduro by Mandela Mandela in a workshop and felt so connected with absolutely everyone in the room. (If you couldnt find me in Miami I was probably dancing kuduro) This is where I met Nicole when I literally swept her up her feet on Mandelas command. Her expression was priceless. Nicole and I were in a workshop the next day she introduced the idea of me coming out to her city to teach. I laughed. Out loud. A lot. Me? Teach? She would ask again. And again after the Dallas Bachata Festival and I finally accepted my offer. By no means do I believe I am good enough to be teaching despite my passion for the dance. I dont want to teach because I just want to dance. I want to honor kizomba and teach it from the heart while making sure to pass along the essence, history, and integrity of the kizomba. This is very important to me. I teach as a student of the dance. I am no expert nor do I pretend to be. I am always looking to learn and travel to get instruction from some of the most amazing international and local teachers who share their passion. I am simply sharing my Kiz Passion (see the plug there to my fanpage? damn, Im so clever) Since my days as a trainer at my old job I have had one quote that I absolutely love! When one teaches, two learn Ultimately I just want to share my passion with as many people as possible. And while teaching I further learn more about this art form. I loved looking around last night and seeing so many people in the room smiling and enjoying themselves. This warmed my heart and made me feel as if I had successfully shared my gift and my passion! This makes me happy. Isnt this what we are all pursuing in life. Love, _teevee
