** ALERT ** TIMING OF FRIDAYS AFTERNOON/ EVENING RAINS IN THE MIDDLE ATLANTIC REGION This map is fairly self explanatory. The first map is the natl radar at 1201 am FRIDAY. The 2nd main shows the main band of showers and thunderstorms will be fairly well organized as it comes east on Friday morning and approaches the Appalachian Mts. However the timing of the front as well as the crossing of the mountains and the fact that the main energy with the upper trough is going to be weakening... Strongly suggests that the thunderstorms will break apart as across the mountains of West Virginia Southern Maryland and Western Pennsylvania. ***** As a result there will be breaks or gaps in the line as it crosses east of the mountains Take a look at the PURPLE line: notice there are significant breaks or gaps in that line which represents the 6:00 PM time frame as the rmains of the main line of showers and thunderstorms move g into Central Virginia. ***** SO IF YOU PLANS FRIDAY EVENING IN CENTRAL & EASTERN Virginia as well as the lower MD Eastern shore you may see SOME scattered showers but a good portion the evening should be fairly dry. There will be a 2nd line of storms that will develop over southern VA piedmont and over central NC after 11pm Friday that may affect Richmond to Raleigh and eastern VA/ NC in the pre-dawn hours ( 12-5am Saturday)
