ALLIANCE FOR BETTER ZAMBIA ABZ PRESS STATEMENT DECEMBER 10, 2014. EDGAR LUNGU COMMENDED FOR NOT ABUSING STATE RESOURCES Our party commends the new Patriotic Front leader and presidential candidate Mr. Edgar Lungu for resisting the temptation to abuse state resources in his campaigns. So far we have observed that Mr. Lungu has been chartering private airplanes to fly around the country as he campaigns ahead of the January 20, 2015 presidential election. He has also been using private motor vehicles driven by PF members. It is our firm belief that the action by Mr. Lungu not to abuse state resources points to his strong conviction that abusing state resources during election campaigns is a form of corruption. We also believe that Mr. Lungu values the need for a level playing field as various political parties campaign to scoop the presidency that fell vacant after the demise of President Michael Chilufya Sata who died in London on October 28, 2014. Our party urges the general public to acknowledge this positive and rare development in our politics and commend Mr. Lungu as a way of enhancing his commendable option not to abuse state resources. As such, we wish to encourage him to continue on this path and do more as Republican President should Zambians vote for him. WARNING TO PF MEMBERS ALIGNED TO ACTING PRESIDENT DR. GUY SCOTT We wish to warn members of the ruling party who have been engaging in wrong doing in the company of acting president Dr. Guy Scott that when the law visits them Dr. Scott will not save them. Dr. Scott as acting president enjoys immunity from prosecution and it is clear that he has been taking advantage of this constitutional provision to engage in wrong doing with impunity. The decision by Dr. Scott to go ahead with his own PF general conference despite knowing about a court order not to do so is one classical example of how the man is abusing the presidential immunity that he is enjoying. Therefore those who think that Dr. Scott will lend them the cloak of immunity when the law visits them will be shocked to find themselves facing the wrath of the law on their own.
