ALS NEWS ROUNDUP a-love-supreme/roundup.htm BORINI SAGA DRAGS ON... SCOCCO STILL LEAVING ZZZZZZ After an already lengthy saga surrounding the transfer of Fabio Borini, the players agent Marco De Marchi has claimed that Borini wants to stay at Liverpool. De Marchi said: Borini wants to remain on Merseyside. Sunderland have made a large offer of €18 million to sign him, but Fabio wants to stay at Liverpool. His project with Liverpool started two years ago when he left Roma – he began a journey and it is a major project for him. He should not be judged on his first year - he was out for six months with injuries and during the past year he took a step back by going to Sunderland and he had an extraordinary season. His future? Now, after the loan, Liverpool have not told me anything. I think he will stay, he is convinced he will play. It also seems as though Gus Poyet is resigned to losing Nacho Scocco, the player having been expected to move from the club for about 2 months now. Poyet said: My first idea, and I knew it would be difficult, was to use Nacho last season to help us get out of the problems we were in. It was always going to be difficult for a player who had played in Argentina and Brazil over the last year to come to the English Premier League. We were in a fight and hes not that type of player – he needed us to be controlling games in order for him to do his bit. The type of player he is, we were not playing to his strengths – he needs to be in a team that is on top in games. So my idea then was to take the close season to improve the team and to improve Nacho in terms of him being used to the environment over here and the football itself. But there are options now and everything is being analysed. We will see what happens over the next few days. This is the first time Gus Poyet has admitted that options are being considered for Scocco, a player who he presumably was keen on making something of himself at Sunderland. Poyet has also hailed Sunderlands youngsters for their recent performances, especially with Duncan Watmore and Charis Mavrias taking to the field against Darlington the other day and being utilised as full backs, a position they presumably arent familiar with: They deserve to be recognised for the hard work theyve put in since the return to training. They took up those positions without complaint or problems, and they applied themselves from the start. Thats the sort of attitude Im talking about – a willingness to do whatever is asked of them, and just to get on with it, looking to be positive all the time. I would like to thank them for playing right-back – a position we dont currently have covered. The boys were fantastic. They willingly did a job for us, and that was good for the team as well. It was great experience for them as well too though, but Im grateful to them because it was not easy to create a couple of back fours. And of course it is an opportunity for them. and for other young players. Speaking of Mavrias, the promising Greek winger believes he has a lot more to contribute this coming season: I cannot complain about last season, though I would have liked to played more. I did manage to play first-team football and I did score a goal (in the FA Cup) but I was still very new here – it was my first season in England, my first season in the Premier League. So in this coming season I would like to think I could do much more. Jordan Pickford has went out on a season-long loan to League One side Bradford. The young goalkeeper, having recently signed a new contract, was a possibility of being out second choice keeper behind Vito Mannone, but having now signed Costel Pantilimon as backup (I think), Pickford may indeed be best suited to going out and getting some first team experience.
