ALTERNATIVE FUNDING - There is a common view that grant support is not ideal for commercial or non-commercial concerns and yet, the notion of funding support is ‘very much alive’. Depending on which side of the fence one is sitting, the prolonged recession or any other financial debacle such as the current one, demands a combination of intelligent decision making on the acquisition of the type of finances required to either start-up a ‘concern’ and/or invest in a product and service line. The key is to identify the market you intend to ‘service’ before you decide on which funding tranche. Funding is available for various enterprising and social investment opportunities. Areas eligible for funding include education, skills training, enterprise, support, environmental matters, the family, migration settlement issues, financial literacy, youth and gender development, sports, music and cultural affairs among other service activities. Many tend to forget that ‘big business’ also accesses resources for the public pursue for a variety of reasons and purposes. So why should micro to small entities not endeavour to do so, with greater skill and alacrity?
