AM TOPIC: POLICE were last night trying to unravel what might have led to the apparent suicide of a recruit at the Regional Police Training Centre. Darwin Downes, 30, of Holder’s Terrace, St James, reportedly died of a gunshot injury to the head around 8 p.m. Unconfirmed reports indicated Downes, who was due to qualify as a lawman at a passing out parade next week, is believed to have used an M16 firearm to take his life. A former employee of ShopSmart and an ex-Barbados Defence Force member, Downes reportedly complained of having domestic problems to some of his close friends. nationnews/index.php/articles/view/suspected-suicide-at-police-training-centre/
