AMBULANCE DIVISION HSU NSW AMQ UPDATE. 20 September 2013 AMQ - TopicsExpress

AMBULANCE DIVISION HSU NSW AMQ UPDATE. 20 September 2013 AMQ update - Matter No. IRC 671of 2013 As you may be aware, ASNSW recently advertised positions of Station Officer with a mandatory requirement for AMQ to be completed as an essential requirement prior to applying for the position. This they claimed is the new requirement for all promotional positions in the future. As a result, the HSU lodged a dispute with the Industrial Relations Commission indicating this requirement to complete AMQ was prohibiting a vast number of paramedics from applying for these positions and believed this approach to filling promotional positions was contrary to the provisions of the Health Services Act in that merit based selection for promotional positions was not being observed. The matter was again before Justice Staff of the Industrial Relations Commission today who has directed the HSU to compile a list of affected members and provide that list to ASNSW by 4.00pm Monday 30 September 2013 with a view to having those members exempt from the requirement to have completed AMQ in order to apply for these promotional positions. A further conciliation conference is to take place on 3 October 2013. The HSU is of the belief that a number of members have endeavoured to undertake the course and for varying reasons have not been given the opportunity to do the course. Accordingly, members are to provide as a matter of urgency, details of attempts made to get onto this course. This is to include those that have applied for the course and been knocked back, those that have expressed an interest with someone senior and never heard back and those that have approached someone senior but told not to bother because they won’t get on to the course regardless. If there are any other reasons why members have not been given the opportunity to do the course, this should also be conveyed. This information from affected members must be e-mailed to [email protected] by 5.00pm Thursday 26 September 2013 in order to collate the information. The HSU needs your name, station and a brief description of how you have not been afforded the opportunity to do this course. Please remember that this is a directive of the IRC for HSU members only and that any of your colleagues that intend to be included in the HSU claim need to be members of the HSU. Members will be updated with the progress of this matter.
