AMEN. daily rant: I truly believe that everyone should have some knowledge of dogs, different breeds, and an understanding of how dogs differ from humans and how to train them before owning them. I do not necessarily believe that breeding is the reason behind an over population of dogs in shelters. It is because people get a dog with zero understanding of dog behavior and can no longer deal with/control that cute little puppy who is now an 80 pound terror. Watching a man walk his German shepherd this morning was a perfect example. As the dog started lunging at another small dog, the owner proceeds to pull the leash shorter and tighter only to cause tension and of course, the dog got progressively worse. If everyone could understand the proper use of choke and prong collars, instead of judging, and how dog behavior worked, less dogs would be tossed away. Or lunging on walks.
