AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN (part 1) Mr. President I greet you in the name of the struggle to make our father a better place. I must congratulate you on some of the giant strides you have been taking to make Nigeria better. The only problem we are having is that those people that call themselves opposition do not understand opposition politics they criticize everything be it good or bad. Mr. President sir, I must make it clear that I am not a big fan of your administration but experience in leadership at every level that I have being involved had thought me that a leader can’t get it one hundred percent. I must congratulate you on the way you handled the crisis in our political party, I must use this medium to confess to you sir, that when that old man was holding sway in the party and running it if it’s an old cartel he inherited from his father, I instructed some of my friends, loyalist and family members to withdraw their support for the party at our level. This decision was informed by my desire to always make case for the youth community. That old man was governor when my father was in junior Secondary close to forty years ago. We are tied of that breed of people it’s their time to die politically for the younger generation to grow. I will also like to disassociate myself and my loyalists from the move by our friends and leaders who packed out of our party and moved into the other party. That move we consider inimical to the growth of our democracy and betrayal of our struggle to get the old man out. However on behalf myself and other members of the youth community I ask that you try and reach a peace accord with Governor Rotimi Amechi; though I understand that he has crossed the Rubicon and he must feel the full length of the presidential rod. I plead that after May 2015 Amechi should not be sent to jail, he should reintegrated into the government like a conquered rebel, I must say sir that I like Mr. Amechi’s energy but the only problem is that he is channeling it the wrong way. The other four governors who left our party did so clearly because of selfish agenda which I am ready tolerate because this is politics but our young friend and brother was beclouded by youthful exuberance this can be clearly seem by the way he talks daily on the pages of newspaper. It’s obvious that Amechi wanted the best for our party that is the reason he was insisting that the old man must go. Today because of the fruitfulness of his fight we have regained majority in house of reps, some deputy governors have joined us, and some of the decamped governors are contemplating returning, you see Sir Mr. Amechi’s fight has increased the ego of our party and made it stronger. The rumour that our man is interested in Vice Presidency is a calculated hand work of the devil aimed at causing confusion in our party. The best place to start reconciliation with this great youth is recognizing him as the authentic chairman NGF by telling old man Jang that his time is up. I have a very heavy heart about the security challenges we are facing in this country. We now leave in a country where citizens can’t sleep with both eyes closed for the fear of terror groups, which ravage every corner of the country daily. As a youth I have independently sat down to look at the possible political causes and solutions to this problem because I believe that every problem has a political solution, but this particular problem has defiled all my calculations. Since it is a crisis situation so military approach still remains the most effective option, I must commend you and your host of advisers for appointing an infantry general to command the army after a very long while. I strongly believe Lt. General KTJ Minimah will crush the spirit of terrorism which has beclouded the reasoning faculties of some of our brothers. I must also use this opportunity to make case for the welfare of officers and men, the war against terror will never be won unless war veterans are appeased. Sir, some these officers and men sacrificed their time and other good things of life for peace, stability and pride of our nation, some of them eventually paid the supreme price and some who didn’t pay the supreme can’t get it together again because of physical health challenges they are suffering as a regards of their engagements in various peace keeping missions both inside and outside our great nation. Some children had to stop school because they lost their bread winners to the quest for peace. This is the reason why officers and men sound the gong of retreat when they are under attack because they don’t want to make mistakes some of their loyal friends made. Sir, in case you are not aware it with heavy hearth that I inform you that over fifty percent increment you ordered on the pension of retired war heros have not been gotten for over thirty six months. These good men are dying of penury and hunger and their offence was absolute loyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Finally I will like to tell you sir that negotiating with any blood sucking terror group at this stage of our national life will destroy what is left of our fabric of peace. By Olaniyi Odina
