ANDER HERRERA TO BE INVESTIGATED Prosecutors in Spain want to speak to Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera over match-fixing allegations, according to reports. Spanish football is currently in the middle of an investigation of alleged fixing of end of season games. One of the matches being looked at is a 2011 clash between Levante and Herrera’s first club Real Zaragoza. Zaragoza’s captain that day, Atletic Madrid star Gabi, has already appeared before prosecutors. Herrera is on a list of other players they want to question, claims Spanish newspaper Marca. The allegation relates to payment made by club president Agapito Iglesias into players’ bank accounts, including the account of Herrera and Gabi. This was paid back but the Spanish authorities are still seeking an explanation. There is no specific allegations of wrongdoing by Herrera mentioned in the Spanish media reports. The report suggests that, if Herrera is required to attend in person before prosecutors and refuses to do so, Spanish authorities could approach English counterparts and effectively extradite the United star, aged 24, to compel him to appear at the Special Prosecutor Against Corruption and Organized Crime’s Office.
