ANDREW KUN: FIRST CAREER WIN IN PURE STOCKS Andrew Kun hung in the top two for twenty-five laps and held off division leader Mark Murphy for the final seven circuits enroute to his first ever Pure Stock win. Scott Cestodio took over at midrace, but an early infraction saw him sent to the rear on a lap seventeen caution (he’d been awarded an assist on a Melissa Charette spin on lap one which was enforced on the next available caution.) Randy Moretti jumped in behind on the Lap 17 restart, but Murphy powered past and made Kun’s life miserable all the way to the checkers, trying high and low to take the lead. But Kun held him off for the trip to victory lane. Murphy also celebrated, however, as he clinched the Pure Stock championship with his evening’s points. It took two attempts to get the field underway as a spin crossing the starting line sent Colby Lambert to the infield. The second try saw Kun come off the pole, a fender ahead of Cestodio, who fired back up. Charette spun, but straightened out and continued. Cestodio chased Kun as Nicholas Johnson, Moretti and John Robidoux pursued. Moretti got under Johnson and Dan Massa edged Robidoux out of fifth. Cestodio nosed under Kun and got ahead by a fender then had the front to himself out of turn four of lap eight, and Moretti started looking under Kun for second. They went door-to-door, chased by Nick Johnson. But Moretti got his wheels into the dirt and Kun retook second. Murph and Massa were debating fifth place, with Murphy hacksawing on the outside until lap 13, when he was able to forge past. Massa then followed him by Nick Johnson and they went after Moretti for third. Amy Arsenault looked under Nick and found her way to sixth on lap 17, but it was chaotic near the front and Dan Johnson and Arsenault were trading paint. Johnson spun and she was assessed the assist, Joining him at the rear. Cestodio was assessed his penalty for the lap one contact at this point. Kun took the pole and outran Moretti. Murphy jumped under Moretti from the low side of the second row and Dave Desrosiers followed. But Nick and Bill Chouinard spun in turn three and Jay Sullivan could not avoid piling into Chouinard, nose-to-nose. It ended the night for both drivers. Second try saw Moretti jump out but Kun caught back up on the low side and gain a half-car edge in turn four. He took over down the front stretch and dropped in front as Murphy moved in under Moretti for second while Kun edged out to a tjree-car lead on lap twenty. One circuit later, however, Murph was on his bumper and glued himself there through the checkers. Robidoux followed Murphy for third, followed by Dan Johnson and Desrosiers. Arsenault fought her way back up for sixth and Massa earned seventh. They were followed by Moretti, Jamie Birch, Cestodio, Nick Johnson, Charette and Keri-Lynn Manfredo.
