ANGASTON Grass Fire - 25/10/14 The CFS is responding to a grass fire near ANGASTON which has burnt around 10 hectares. The fast moving fire which ignited just before 2.30pm at one point threatened some properties on Radford Road before CFS crews managed to stop the forward rate of spread. There are six CFS appliances currently on scene, who are being supported by four Farm Fire Units. A front end loader and bob cat are being used to create a break on the southern flank of the fire on Hurns Road, which remains problematic as crews work on difficult terrain to get this edge under control. An additional 2 CFS crews are en route to support the existing 40 firefighters in bringing the fire under control. There are isolated properties along the northern flank of the fire on Crennis Mines Road and along the rear of the fire on Long Gully Road, and crews are working to ensure these properties are protected. The cause of the fire is unknown. The public is advised that a large amount of smoke is visible from the township of Angaston, and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and to drive with caution. The CFS urges the community to remain vigilant and alert, and stay informed by visiting the CFS website or social media pages, or contacting the Bushfire Hotline on 1300 362 361.
