ANIOMA STATE. MATTERS ARISING. The reccommendations for the creation of more state in Nigeria, including Anioma State by the National Constitutional Conference, 2014, currently holding in the Nations capital, Abuja, has recandled the hope of the people of Delta North Senatorial Distric, otherwise known as Anioma region to have a state of their own. This greenlight follows more than half a century old clamour of the people of the region to take their own destiny in their own hands, by having a State called theirs. Most recently, before the convocation of the National Confab, Royal fathers and some notable elders cumb political leaders of the zone had gone round the nooks and crannies of the country, to meet who is who in the land to renew their quest for a state of their own amongs other requests. Now that the National Confab has given the nod for the State to be created, more serious and dedicated efforts are demanded of the people of the area to ensure that the dreams becomes a reality. Bearing the convulated constitutional requirements for the creation of state in mind, the task of achieving Anioma State will not be easy. This is due to the following underling factors. Lack of confidence among Aniomas on their ability to stand on their own. Since the news of the recommendations for the creation of states was made public, a lot of Anioma psudo-economists had gone to their locker to pick and dust up their old secondary school economics notebooks to examine the term VIABILITY OF A STATE and they are coming out with their archic theories to say that Anioma State is unviable and therefore cannot sustain itself as a state. These classes of people are mainly idle looters, who fear that if the state is created, they may not have a bounty treasury to deep their hands into for a big loot. These sets of people will do everything within their reach to ensure that the creation of the state did not materialised. So far they are using the unviability slogan to dampen the strong resolve, moral and spirit of a people who just wanted a space called theirs, where their full potential could be exercised and expressed. These sets of people are telling the Aniomas that they will die should they go their seperate way from the present Delta State. These sets of people apart from their selfish desire to have access to bounty funds to swell their personal bank accounts through treasury looting, are also acting like the slaves of the old who on the abolution of the notorious slave trade, adamantly refused to leave their slave masters for fear that they will die of hunger if they venture out of their slave encampments. The message for these sets of people is that they should realise that the 21st economic index does not shows that nations with abundant mineral and natural resources are richer and more developed than those that does not have. Global economic indices show that Nations with strong human capital resources are more endowed with strong economy. Anioma State will have one of the strongest human capital resources in the country and she will be more than capable of excelling on her own developmentally, industrially, educationally and socially. Another factor which may be an abbatros and obstacle on the quick realisation of Anioma State will be the actions of the South Senatorial District. The Ijaws, Isokos and Itsekiris are really not comfortable to see Anioma go from the present Delta State. The reasons are quite obvious, despite all the much talked and rethorics about old Delta province, Anioma remains a strong force of political stability in Delta state. Once Anioma State is gone, the Ijaws, Isokos and the Itsekiris will be swallowed by the giant Pyton locking around their neighbourhood, the Urhobos. Already these people have became jiltering since the recommendations for the creation of Anioma State was made public and currently clandestine meetings are been held here and there by them to truncate the dream of Anioma State. They need Anioma as a buffer for their fearsome giant neighbour so they wont allow her go so easily. With this fear and recent developments, if the constitutional 2/3 votes required from Delta State House of Assembly are sort for Anioma State to be created, she may not get it as House members from the South Senatorial District will block the move. It is definitely not yet uhuru time for Aniomas, the only hope lies on the President subjecting the Confab recommendations to National referendum. Nigerians will approve the recommendations of the National Confab because almost every zones of the federation has one or two reasons to okay the report. Mainwhile the leadership of Anioma region should not relent in fighting for the realisation of this long overdue dreams of the people of the zone, to have their State, ANIOMA STATE.
